High Performance Home Theater at the Touch of a Button

There are plenty of companies out there that can deliver a high performance home theater system.  But one area where many companies fall short is in delivering an easy way to operate these systems.  Here are a few tips for getting a system that will not only blow your socks off, but will be simple enough that all of your family can enjoy it.

One Touch Control

Home theater systems can be extremely complex.  Every piece of equipment comes with it's own remote control.  This means that even a relatively small system will have upwards of 5 remotes.  This is unworkable if you want a quick and easy method of turning on your system.

We've all seen the checklist of steps required to turn on the TV or watch a movie.  It doesn't have to be that complicated.  Companies like Audio Video Experts of Los Angeles program universal remotes that control your entire system with one touch of a button.

So watching your favorite TV program is as simple as picking up the remote and pressing "Watch TV".  If you change your mind and want to watch a movie it's no big deal.  Simply press the "Watch Movie" button.  And when you're ready to turn the system off all you do is hit the "Power Off" button.

A universal remote eliminates the need for a coffee table full of remotes and instructions.  When properly programmed they can turn even the most complex home theater system into one that is easy to use and enjoyable for everyone.

Touch Screen vs Hard Buttons

Many of today's high end universal remote controls utilize touch screen interfaces similar to those of an iPhone or iPad.  Others look very similar to the remote that comes with your TV or cable box.  Whichever way you decide to go, here are a couple things to keep in mind.

Touch screen remotes look beautiful.  They often have very colorful interfaces that are easy to use pleasing to the eye.  The layout is infinitely adjustable based on the requirements of your system.  There is a downside however.

Touch screen remotes tend to be easier to break than hard button remotes.  For homes with small children these types of remotes can be an expensive option.  This is especially true in rooms with tile or hardwood floors.

They also require that you look down at the remote any time you wish to perform a function.  This may not sound like a bid deal, but it can be tedious to look down every time you wish to use the remote.
